Unfortunately, almost everything you do uses energy and unless that energy comes from wind, solar or other renewable sources, results in carbon emissions.
This includes the obvious things, the ones that directly consume energy, such as driving your car, heating your home, or flying on a plane. However, it also includes everything you buy. The salad you ate for dinner last night required energy to grow (ex. the tractor used to plow the field and the pumps used to water it), required energy to run the processing plant where it was washed and packaged, and required energy to power the truck that took it from the farm to your local market.
For the typical Newton household (2.3 people living in a 2,500 square foot home), the amount of carbon emitted each year is 30,000 pounds or 13,000 lbs per person. The chart below shows the sources of those emissions.
