If you use natural gas for heating your gas supplier National Grid sends you a monthly report in which your gas use is compared with other similar homes in your area. Although it is a rough measure you will learn from that report whether your home is similar to the average, lower or higher. It is a useful first approximation.
Another, much more accurate way to find out is to schedule a free Home Energy Assessment through MassSave. During that assessment a so-called blower door test is performed, which will answer your question very reliably.
If the assessment is conducted in winter when the temperature outside is significantly lower than inside, you can ask the MassSave assessor to take an infrared picture of your house from the outside. The picture will show where your house is well insulated and there are leaks. Make sure that you make this request prior to the home visit because the assessors do not routinely carry infrared cameras.
