In some old houses the electrical service has limited capacity (say 60 amps). If the electrical system in your house cannot handle 200 Amp electrical current demand made by Level 2 charger you will need to upgrade it. Such an upgrade can cost anywhere between $5000 and $8000 because it may require running a new cable from the street high voltage power lines to your house.
In 2020 there is a federal subsidy of $1000 to offset the cost of installing chargers.
