A ductless indoor heat pump is incredibly quiet, more so than the typical refrigerator. A ducted heat pump can be quieter than the typical furnace or central AC unit. An outdoor heat pump unit will be equally or more quiet than a conventional central AC unit, save a brief noise when the outdoor unit switches into defrost mode occasionally in the winter.
