Newton Power Choice sends out one letter about the program when your account is first eligible for automatic enrollment. That letter includes the Newton Power Choice logo, the City seal, and the Mayor’s name at the bottom. If the letter you received does not include all three items, it is not from the City and does not represent the City program.
Please note that if Eversource is your electricity supplier and you receive a letter about Newton Power Choice in the mail, you will be automatically enrolled in Newton Power Choice unless you choose to opt out.
Any person or company who contacts you about your electricity that is not Newton Power Choice or Eversource is an independent electricity supplier trying to sell you their service. They do not represent Newton Power Choice or the City of Newton.
If you receive a call or a visit from someone who wants to discuss your electricity bill, keep these two things in mind:
1. You should treat your Eversource account number like you treat your credit card information. Do not give it out unless you want to purchase your electricity from someone else.
2. You do have the right to select an electricity supplier of your choice. If you choose to explore this option, please check the terms of the agreement carefully. Things to check for include: minimum bill amounts, contract length requirements, early termination fees, low introductory rates that change after the introductory period ends, and rates that vary.
