By contrast, for residential electricity customers, Eversource’s prices change every six months (January through June, July through December). Typically, Eversource’s prices are higher for the January through June period than for July through December.
For January through July of 2023, participating in Newton Power Choice is much less expensive than remaining on Eversource Basic Service. At the Newton Power Choice default rate (84% renewables), the median Newton residential electricity customer saves approximately $67 per month, or $400 over the next six-month period, as compared to Eversource Basic Service.
This is how the savings break down for the median Newton residential customer, who uses 550 kWh per month. The savings are even greater for customers who use more electricity.
Since Eversource’s prices change every six months, there is no guarantee that Newton Power Choice customers will save money this summer. However, since the start of the Newton Power Choice program, relative to Eversource Basic Service Newton Power Choice customers have saved money on average over the course of each year.
Remember that by State law Eversource’s prices change every six months, and that future savings from Newton Power Choice cannot be guaranteed. But you can switch from Newton Power Choice back to Basic Service at any time, without any fee.
