In new construction, a heat pump is the only heating system that genuinely makes sense, and which produces both heating and cooling. The costs of installing a gas system vs. a heat pump system in new construction are close, and the heat pump provides both heating and air conditioning. An air-source heat pump for hot water also makes sense.
