A great place to find energy efficient humidifiers is on the ENERGY STAR website. The Sponsors of Mass Save also offer some rebates you may be interested in: $30 for turning in your old dehumidifier (although it must still work) and $30 for buying an ENERGY STAR model.
Some of the newer models have features that may be useful, such as built-in timers, pumps (so you don’t have to empty the reservoir), and even wifi-enabled ones that alert you when the reservoir is full and needs to be emptied. There are also some larger ducted or whole-house units, but they are much more expensive and are only marginally more efficient.

For those readers who might not know, basement dehumidifiers are an inexpensive way to deal with a problem leftover from the times of energy wasting house designs. Today, we see the more efficient contractors around Newton building with foam board insulation attached to the outside surface of foundation walls. Besides the energy savings (U.S. Department of Energy reports over 20% decreases in energy consumption for insulated foundations in similar climates), those builders are nearly eliminating the Summertime movement of moisture, from outside to inside the basement. That movement of moisture is why many homeowners buy new electric dehumidifiers, every few years.
The best solution? Consider upgrading your foundation to modern building standards, by insulating the outside foundation walls. Say "goodbye" to smelly basements, "hello" to higher home values, and get a big "Thank You" from the planet. When done right, your house will require less energy and keep you more comfortable still.
